Welcome to new faculty
Welcome to Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine.
You have joined our medical school community at an exciting time. As part of our dynamic strategic plan, we are rolling out a brand new undergraduate medical education curriculum in conjunction with the launch of our undergraduate program in New Brunswick. We have set ourselves the goal of doubling research funding in five years and are eagerly anticipating the opening of a new Life Sciences Research Institute at our Halifax campus. We are also embarking upon major organizational and fiscal renewal.
Our medical school is strongly united in a commitment to these strategic goals, and we look forward to your involvement in helping us to achieve them. I encourage you to become familiar with our mission and strategic plan, which are outlined on our web site at http://strategicplan.medicine.dal.ca/.
Your initial weeks and months at Dalhousie will be both energizing and challenging as you prepare to teach new classes, settle into your new research lab, meet new colleagues, and familiarize yourself with a new environment. We are here to support you and to help you succeed.
This New Faculty Orientation Manual has been developed to make this transition as smooth as possible, by introducing you to key areas and services, as well as key personnel. This manual also contains important information to help you become an active and engaged member of our faculty through teaching, research and service.
Dalhousie is widely recognized as a university whose dynamic and collegial environment fosters excellence, originality, and collaboration. Thank you for choosing to come to Dalhousie University Faculty of Medicine. I look forward to working with you, and to celebrating your contributions and future accomplishments.
Yours sincerely,
Thomas J. Marrie, M.D.
Dean, Faculty of Medicine
